Adolescent Services

Prairie Center Health Systems, Inc. (Prairie Center) provides youth substance abuse education and treatment services in Champaign, Ford and Vermilion County. In Addition, Prairie Center provides substance abuse services at both the Vermilion and Champaign County Juvenile Detention Centers.

Counseling, Early Intervention and Education services are provided out of the Danville and Urbana facilities. Additionally, the Urbana Outpatient office, 718 Killarney Street, provides  Family Support Services. Some outreach and transportation services are available to youth. The Danville office, located at 128 North Vermilion Street, provides substance abuse services at the facility and at 11 middle and high schools in Vermilion County. Prairie Center provides these services in 16 elementary through high schools in Champaign and Ford County.

Young people aged 12-18 years are served by licensed and or credentialed adolescent addictions counselors. Based upon the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Placement Criteria, each young person in need receives an individual substance abuse assessment and works with the counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan.

Age appropriate, science-based curriculum is utilized to deliver group and individual treatment counseling. During the school year, Prairie Center professionals work closely with school building principals, classroom teachers and social workers to deliver these services at no charge to the school or to the youth.

During the summer months the Urbana office sponsors a Youth Camp, providing outreach transportation and a mix of social skills, drug prevention education, recreational and arts-based activities for at-risk Urbana and Champaign middle and early high school students.

Addictions counselors are often considered a part of the school counselor team, helping in situations where additional counselors are needed to work directly with students in crisis.
