2011 National Red Ribbon Campaign October 22-30, 2011
The Prevention Department of The Prairie Center will be promoting the 2011 National Red Ribbon Campaign, October 22-30, 2011. Red Ribbon is a national drug-free community campaign, which focuses on increasing awareness about the dangers of illegal alcohol and other drug use. The theme os this year's Campaign is "It's Up to Me to Be Drug Free". The Prairie Center will be sponsoring school contests for kindergarten through 12th grades in Champaign, Ford and Vermilion counties. These contests will include bookmark designs, poetry and essay writing for students to express how living a healthy, drug free lifestyle will assist them in accomplishing their goals and dreams.
A Red Ribbon Recognition Reception will be held October 25, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Hawthorn Suites, Champaign. This event will recognize the K-12 Contest Winners and their classes, as well as donating businesses/organizations that have provided contributions to this campaign. U of I Basketball Coaches Bruce Weber and Jolette Law will serve as the 2011 Honorary Chairpersons and will provide Keynote comments at the Recognition Reception. Members from the men's and women's basketball teams are also invited to attend. Approximately 200 people are expected to attend this event.
