The Champaign County Operation Snowball Chapter provides leadership programs in substance abuse prevention which help youth to enhance their self-esteem, develop responsible desicion making skills, and create positive peer influence.

The name originates from the idea that, "If I make a change in myself, then I have a positive impact on you, you can have a postive impact on someone else, and the effect snowballs."

8/1/11 - OPERATION SNOWBALL UPDATE

Prairie Center Health Systems would like to notify the community that as of July 1, 2011, the Champaign County Mental Health Board (CCMHB) made the decision to discontinue funding for Operation Snowball. The CCMHB reported that they were reallocating the funds to other programs/agencies which they considered were better aligned with their goals.

The Prairie Center will continue to facilitate Operation Snowball programming to Champaign County high school youth. Operation Snowball programming features weekly meetings with discussion topics such as; alcohol/drug use & abuse, healthy relationships, leadership skills, effective communication, conflict management, as well as periodic community volunteerism.

Operation Snowball’s Tuesday night meetings are now held at the Prairie Center - Urbana office, located at 718 Killarney. Meetings are from 6:00pm-8:00pm and snacks are provided.

In an attempt to supplement the funding that has been provided in the past by the Mental Health Board, fundraising projects will take place for special events, as well as the Annual Retreats.
